Hammock
A closer look at the night, through movement and cardiac signals.

A different view of the night
What can a wrist wearable measure directly during the night? This project connects a Garmin recorder to an offline Python workflow for exploring movement and cardiac activity.
What’s built
- On-device logging of wrist raw acceleration and beat-to-beat intervals to FIT files.
- Inspecting movement events, associated heart-rate responses, and quiet-period cardiac dynamics.
- Reproducible analysis in notebooks and nightly reports.
An inspectable workflow
Recording, decoding, quality assessment, and analysis remain separate steps. The approach keeps raw data, repairs, and exclusions available for inspection.
Where it stands
This is exploratory research software in rapid evolution and my main long-term project. Currently, the watch recorder and offline analysis are implemented. An interactive Night Explorer is planned. Actually, lots of interesting things are planned. I'm currently going with the flow and exploring all possible directions that arise from the data
