Interplay between motor and cardiovascular systems during sleep
Studying the topography of nocturnal body movements and how they relate to cardiovascular responses.
The question
How are movements during the night related to changes in cardiovascular activity? This study uses a wearable multi-sensor array to examine movement patterns and their physiological context.
The approach
Movement events are detected from acceleration and related to changes in heart rate and pulse-wave amplitude. The analysis considers different body regions and sleep–wake conditions.
What it contributes
The work provides proof-of-concept evidence for studying nighttime motor and cardiovascular activity together using wearable sensors. Larger studies and comparison with polysomnography remain necessary.
From research to software
This research informs the movement and cardiac-response workflow in Hammock. The single-wrist implementation is an adaptation and needs its own validation.
